Special Session      Yangtze River–Mississippi River Navigation Development Forum

The Yangtze River in China and the Mississippi River in the United States are the third and fourth largest rivers in the world, respectively. They are the largest rivers in their host countries, shouldering a huge amount of domestic tasks. Inland navigation is effective in reducing domestic transportation costs, promoting resource flow in the basin, and coordinating the development of the river basin region. The inland shipping in both rivers has a long history of development. There are similar experiences in the successes and failures during the inland shipping developments. Therefore, the special forum, Yangtze River–Mississippi River Navigation Development Forum, is set up at this conference. Famous experts from the US and China are invited to communicate and discuss the navigation developments of these two rivers. And the Chongqing government will invite the academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and experts at home and abroad, to explore the developing opportunities in Chongqing and the western China.
